I'm doing a bunch of pattern routing in the next couple of weeks and figure putting foam/rubber tape on both sides of my templates and using them as both vacuum clamp and pattern will work best. There seems to be a dizzying array of foam/rubber tapes on the market advertised as various weatherstripping and gasket tapes... what's the best to use for this application? |

Look for something that is closed cell. I got what I use from Joe Woodworker. |

I've purchased the stuff Joe WW sells and also used the water seal adhesive back rubber found in the RV and boat maintenance supply stores. |

+1 on Allstar Adhesives. o-ring cord stock also works. Here another low tech clamping bag, which works pretty well actually. |

Neoprene round cord is where it's at. As others said: if you can't get it locally, Allstar Adhesives has what you need. The round cord works best, and I use it with a square bottom groove cut just a bit over half its diameter. I use the 3/16" stuff just because. Pretty much anything works well as a vacuum bag- we often use clear garbage bags at work. You can seal the bag to the hose with electrical tape, or even a few zip ties. |
